For many people, talking about money (whether it be giving or asking) is uncomfortable. After all, money is a very private affair. Truth be known, fundraising is all about relationships. There are three basic components to understand when talking about money:
Philanthropy – something based on values; people do something voluntary for the public good (like supporting an arts, human service or educational program)
Development – uncovers shared values (activities to get to know people in order to get them engaged in a specific project)
Fundraising – enables people to act on their values (asking people to give money to what they deem is important and of value to them).
