City Impact

In the spring of 2009, we took our first week-long trip into the Tenderloin in San Francisco and had an eye-opening experience as students served in a variety of ways and stepped out of their comfort zones.

This spring break, we will be working in the Tenderloin in San Francisco and serving with an organization called City Impact which has a variety of ministries for the people in need there: a rescue mission, worship center, City Academy for low-income children (the only Christian school in the area), volunteer center, inner-city ministry program, thrift store, food bank, and a mobile food bank.

The Tenderloin has the highest concentration of homeless and poverty in San Francisco, with around 10,000 homeless.

Their ministry depends on donations and volunteer groups coming in and serving throughout the year.

Our school helps for half a day once a month, but this will be a full-immersion 5-day, 4-night trip which will not only give us more time to serve there, but also expand our perspectives and step out of our comfort zones as we serve.

It also helps us realize that we don’t have to travel across the world to reach out to people in need!
