Our Philosophy

The athletic program of Alma Heights Christian is a dynamic integral part of the whole educational experience. At all times, the athletic program will be conducted in a way that is complementary and supportive of the academic program. In addition, it will provide meaningful learning opportunities not otherwise offered in the school classroom curriculum. It will assist in developing habits, attitudes, and ideals necessary for the ethical competition and cooperation in our society.

The balance between cooperation and competition is fostered by a well-conducted athletic program under competent leadership. Furthermore, the athletic program will provide our students with life-long lessons for personal growth such as sportsmanship, teamwork, ethical behavior, perseverance, commitment, loyalty, self-discipline, pride, responsibility, and leadership skills.

Code of Conduct

Since part of our education is preparing the student-athlete for his/her future in working in a job-oriented society, we work on attitudes and habits of conduct that are positive and helpful. In order to achieve this goal, we believe practice or games must start with a healthy attitude toward the coaches and teammates, and the student-athlete must have a desire to succeed. Any of these areas not developed will weaken the team growth, maturity and success of the student-athlete.

Student-athletes must maintain a respectful, positive attitude toward teammates, other adults, coaches, teachers and administrators. Student-athletes must also appreciate, and respect Alma Heights Christian and other schools’ students, campus and property.

Student-athletes’ language development is important in all activities and academics. Student-athletes will be expected to use (both on and off campus) standard English and avoid all swearing, changing trends of slang and inappropriate terms. Students are expected to use language that encourages and uplifts each other.

Our school is a drug-free school. Student-athletes must abstain from illegal drugs, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, and activities that limit their potential.

Mission Statement:

At Alma Heights Christian we are committed to instilling a high standard of excellence through our athletic program. Excellence will be evident in our student-athletes’ character and will enrich campus life and our community. In the pursuit of this high standard of excellence our goals are…

  • to foster an atmosphere of fun and sense of commitment and responsibility in our student-athlete when participating in inter-scholastic athletics;
  • to produce in the student-athlete a sense of unselfishness and cooperation in order to reach team goals;
  • to instill in the student-athlete an appreciation and respect towards his/her teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials;
  • to promote a healthy lifestyle through good health, physical fitness and abstention from activities that limit a student-athlete’s potential;
  • to encourage in the student-athlete a sense of unyielding effort towards individual academic achievement;
  • to mould in the student-athlete a sense of pride for the school among students, staff, alumni and parents;
  • to nurture in the student-athlete leadership qualities that strengthen their ethics and faith while developing a mature Christian attitude.
