It has been an eventful summer at Alma Heights, with a flurry of planning and preparations for the coming school year. We have especially been focused on leadership planning since early June, when David Welling accepted a position as a director in a school in Africa. We will miss the Wellings but trust God’s leading in their lives. As many of you know, David and Marian Welling grew up in Africa and met in school there. It has been their long-term dream to return. Please join in praying for them as they take this big step.

We see this as a time to broaden our leadership team at Alma Heights. We have a great faculty and many people with strong leadership skills. Our new school administrative team will include six members. We will continue to be led by Joseph Gross as Senior Administrator, and I will continue serving as High School Principal. Abigail Jiron will serve the high school as Vice Principal of Student Services and Dawn Mulliken as Vice Principal of Academics. Belinda Casas will serve as Principal for the Kindergarten through 8th Grade and Scott Chapin will serve as a K-8 Vice Principal. Ms. Casas’ office will remain at the Middle School campus and Mr. Chapin will serve primarily from the office at the elementary school campus.

This coming year will be a big one for the school with new faculty and administrative staff and completion of our accreditation self-study. We will be visited by an ACSI/WASC accreditation team next spring.

All schools in the State of California are required to develop an earthquake preparedness plan. The plan requires that schools be prepared to care for their students for a 72 hour period. We offer a kit from Quake Pro. This compact survival kit contains all the basic survival supplies to get you through those first 72 hours.

The kit contains:

  • 1 – 3 pack of water (25 oz)
  • 2400 calorie apple cinnamon food ration
  • 1 solar blanket
  • 1 light stick
  • 3 wet naps
  • 1 emergency instructions
  • Each student will be billed $8.00 on the September statement.
